100 Mile Challenge (Start 4-1-18)

At the beginning of each year, I go through the Couch to 5K program. I am a ‘run when I want’ kind of runner. Or jogger rather. Never more than a 5K and I struggle to even get that. Most of those are in the summer, and I get what I call a runners headache in the warm months.

This year though, when a few friends and I went through the Couch to 5K, it went really well. So I was excited when one mentioned we should do the Couch to 10K next. Heck yea, let’s go for it !!  It’s been a bit tough, but I’m sticking with it.

Then I saw a 100 Mile Challenge for women. You’re probably thinking, “You’re crazy ! You can’t do that ! You’ll injure yourself when you’re not prepared or conditioned to run that far”.  And you’re right. But it’s not the run all at once type of challenge.

This isn’t your typical virtual event. It’s an interactive virtual challenge. It is motivation. It is women of all different ages and fitness levels with one common goal. It is not a race. It is a motivational way to establish, or maintain a healthy, active lifestyle. It is a challenge you make for yourself. How and when you complete the miles is up to you. But all women come together from around the world on this fitness journey together. You do this around your juggling busy work and home lives. We all share progress, get tips and advice about fitness and diet, in our virtual group of friends. There will also be little side challenges along the way. Since we are not racing or competing against each other, we set our own challenge times and goals.

bike ride

The guideline is to have 3 months to complete it, but really it’s however long you need. Some women who run marathons will wipe this out in no time. Those who are just starting out walking may take longer. And all time frames are ok. And the best part is, you can walk them, run them, bike them, elliptical them, swim them….whatever it is you like to do.

For me, my Goals for this 100 Mile Challenge are:

  • 100 miles Running (as much as possible, trying to minimize the walking)
  • 100 miles Biking (stationary or outside, weather permitting)
  • Want to complete all 200 miles in 1 month.

I started April 1st, but I got a very slow start due to some work and blog complications. I’m still determined to make my 1 month deadline. If our weather ever gets nice out, you may see me running around town. Give me a honk. Give me a wave. Hell give me a ride !!!!  I’ll keep you updated each weekend where I’m at.

These miles were as of 4-6-18.
